Videophone Social Work Intervention with Informal
Caregivers of Hospice Cancer Patients

Department of Family and Community Medicine

This project proposes to strengthen hospice care for patients by improving the outcomes for informal caregivers with a social work intervention known as COPE (Creativity, Optimism, Planning, and Expert information). COPE is based on the notion that training family members to effectively manage the challenges associated with caregiving will result in better clinical outcomes. We hypothesize that the COPE intervention can effectively be delivered by social workers, and that technology can supplement face to face visits, resulting in equal efficacy and less cost.
