HRSA Funds the Future of Family Medicine Residency Training at MU
MU’s Family Medicine Residency Program was awarded a three-year training grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Funding from this grant will support new and innovative projects designed to train family medicine residents to:
- To provide effective and continuously improving primary care to patients with chronic illness;
- To care for underserved populations and other high risk groups, such as the elderly and individuals affected by substance abuse, homelessness, domestic violence, and HIV/AIDS; and
- To effectively practice in a new care model, emphasizing facile use of the electronic health record, multidisciplinary collaboration, ongoing quality improvement, and patient-centered care.
“We are thrilled that our program was chosen to receive this award,” says Professor and Family Medicine Residency Director Dr. Erika Ringdahl, MD. “Funding from this grant will provide essential support for our efforts to redesign key parts of our curriculum and better prepare MU graduates to practice in the new model of care.”
